York Regional Police have confirmed the identities of two victims killed in what investigators describe as a targeted shooting. No suspects have been named, and connections to organized crime remain unconfirmed.
York Regional Police have publicly identified the two men fatally shot outside a residence in Vaughan, Ontario, on Wednesday evening. The victims are Pasquale Casciato, 49, and Christian Belsito, 34. Both men were standing outside a home near Kaiser Drive and Forest Drive at approximately 5:30 p.m. when gunfire erupted.
In a brief statement released late Wednesday, police said they believe the shooting was targeted, not random. A constable speaking to reporters at the scene confirmed that one of the deceased men resided at the home where the shooting took place. The other victim, police added, also lived in the immediate neighbourhood.
Investigation Ongoing; Possible Link to Vehicle Fire
Authorities are now examining whether the Vaughan double homicide is connected to a vehicle fire reported roughly 12 kilometres away. An SUV was found fully engulfed in flames near Huntington Road and Kirby Road around the same time as the shooting. Such fires are frequently used to destroy evidence in targeted violent crimes, though police have not officially confirmed a link.
No suspect descriptions have been released. Investigators are appealing for witnesses and any available dashboard or home security footage.
Obituary and Community Response
As of this writing, complete obituaries for Casciato and Belsito have not been publicly released by families. However, community members in Woodbridge and Vaughan—areas with historic associations to organized crime, including past Mafia and Hells Angels activity—have expressed shock. Belsito shares a surname with the well-known Belsito Trattoria restaurant in Vaughan, though no official connection between the victim and the restaurant has been established by police.
Social media tributes have begun circulating, but authorities caution against speculation. Neither victim had a public criminal record cited in immediate police releases.
Broader Context: Unrelated School Threats Arrest
In a separate incident, Peel police arrested a Scarborough man this week for threatening multiple Brampton schools. That case is unrelated to the Vaughan homicides.
More Updates Expected
York Regional Police have stated the investigation remains active. Further updates on the obituaries, funeral arrangements, and possible cause-of-death determinations are expected once families are notified and autopsies are completed.
This is a developing story. Additional information on Pasquale Casciato and Christian Belsito will be published as official sources confirm details.
